Del.icio.us Coverage
In a follow up to my Google as a Clipping Service post, I want to plug the social bookmarking service Del.icio.us. For those unfamiliar, think of it as the 'Favorites' tool in Internet Explorer or the 'Bookmarking' feature in Firefox. The only difference is that the bookmarks live on the web and not on your computer, which enables others to access your sites using tags.
How can this help your communication efforts?
It provides a no-cost method for organizing your 'news' and enabling others (customers, prospects, employees, etc) to access it easily. When your company is mentioned in news sites, web sites, blog posts, etc., you can easily label it with a common tag. All of the links with a common tag are accessed with a single link (e.g., running)
When tracking coverage for the Environmental Excellence Awards sponsored by Hospitals for a Healthy Environment, we simply set up a tag called 'H2E'. The coverage can be viewed at http://del.icio.us/planetrelations/h2e.
It works great for assembling far-flung links from various sources. Set up a Google Alert or Yahoo Alert for your topic and bookmark them them using Del.icio.us for future use. Send them to your boss, include in your next e-newsletter, or post to your company's online media center.
